The first CrossRoad Bluegrass Gospel Jam went pretty good. 7 people showed up – 3 pickers and 4 singers/spectators. We had a good time and played for about 2 1/2 hours. I think hurricane Irma and the unexpected death of a well loved church member really had an effect on turnout. But, like you say, it’s God’s jam, not mine.
One of the 3 pickers was a young man, probably 15 or 16 years old. At church that day, I noticed him across the room from where I had my table set up – he was kind of hovering, but then walked down the hallway before I could talk to him. Few minutes later, a woman came up and asked me about the jam, and I asked if she played or knew someone who played. She said her son was taking guitar lessons, and I said this would be perfect for him. She said, you know how kids are – if you push them to do something, they tend to resist. But she said she would mention it to him. About 5 minutes later, Josh came up to me and asked me about the jam. I gave my spiel about it and he signed up on the email list. And then he showed up! At the end, he said he really enjoyed it and would be coming again. He was really excited about it. So that was definitely the high point of this jam for me – just making a connection with that one person…
Looking forward to the next jam, October 15th, 2017! This time the church put it in the monthly calendar and also a video announcement for it. So I think there are going to be a few more people there.
Thank you to all who attended, and thank you Lord for sending those who did attend – we had a great time praising your name!
